July 15–17 at Harbourfront Centre

Harbourfront Centre is proud to announce the 11th edition of Ritmo y Color: The Streets of Mexico festival on July 15–17. The three-day celebration weaves the street culture of Mexico throughout Harbourfront Centre with all-day programming of music, dance, food and wrestling! All events, with the exception of Lucha by the Water!, are free for everyone!

Friday, July 15
Papi Chulo will kick off the festival on the Stage in the Round with a fresh mix of electronic music, psychedelia and tropical rhythms. Moving to the outdoor Concert Stage, The Mariachi Ghost will keep things going by fusing traditional Mexican song and progressive rock. DJ Elvis Cocho, the man who brought cumbia from the streets of Mexico City to Montreal’s dance floors, will bring his flavour of psychedelic cumbia to the Harbourfront. Latin Grammy-award nominees Centavrvs, who fuse traditional Mexican corrido with avant-garde electronic rhythms, will headline the first evening.

Saturday, July 16
One of Toronto’s most recognized voices in the Mexican rock community, Saul Torres, will have Saturday night jumping as he seamlessly ties together Latin beats, funk, rock and flamenco on the Stage in the Round. Sure to keep people dancing, The Mexican Folk Ballet will take audience members on a tour through the different states of Mexico with dance, art and music. On the Concert Stage, singer/songwriter Mamselle will fill the waterfront with her jazz and Latin-infused Mexican folk songs. Following another set by Elvis Cocho, the illustrious Astrid Hadad will close out the night with her unconventional and dazzling visual performance known for its theatrics, costumes and politics.

Sunday, July 17
Rosy Cervantes y la Sana Rabia blends her background in Latin American folk music with the blues to make a sound all her own. Closing out the festival will be the spectacular Lucha By The Water! featuring top Mexican wrestling superstars Blue Demon Jr., Lince Dorado and Octagoncito facing off against some of Toronto’s home-grown talent. The Harbourfront Centre Theatre will be fitted with a professional boxing ring for an authentic live wrestling match. Tickets for Lucha by the Water! can be purchased at my.harbourfrontcentre.com

On both Saturday and Sunday during Ritmo y Color, there will be Mexican Folk Ballet Workshops where Torontonians are invited to learn traditional dances from the different states of Mexico. Taking over the Boulevard Tent near the Concert Stage will be La Fonda, a traditional Mexican meeting place to eat delicious food, play games with friends and listen to music by Mexican roots quartet Palo Dado.

Throughout the entire festival, the World Café will be turning out delicious food inspired by Ritmo y Color, while the Lakeview Market will be bursting at the seams with vendors from all over the city.

And everyday at Harbourfront Centre, Boxcar Social offers a curated, rotating list of coffees from the best roasters in North America, and a careful selection of some of the world’s top new-world wines, craft beers, scotches and bourbons. The Slip, voted one of Toronto’s best new patios, offers all-day sun, a breeze off the lake, cocktail pitchers and fresh cuisine.
