Imagina salir de casa y encontrarte en un lugar completamente diferente, distintos idiomas, comidas y cultura, por nombrar algunos. Esta, es sin duda, una realidad para los viajantes y nuevos inmigrantes Latinos, que llegan a Canadá cada año. Para ellos poder adaptarse a nuevas costumbres, ideologías y creencias, a veces toma tiempo y no siempre se logra.
Por eso y para tener una idea más completa acerca de los choques culturales, en los que se han visto envuelto “Nuestra población Latina”, conversamos con algunos de ellos:
Daniela, 37 años, Chile:
“En mí caso, me gusta que me saluden con la mano, cuando no conozco a la persona. El tema de sacarse los zapatos cuando voy a un lugar, es algo que me gusta también, de hecho lo adopté en mí casa en Chile.”
Wilson, 34 años, Costa Rica:
“Me vine a los 26 años, me llamó la atención las montañas llenas de nieve, además de las estaciones bien marcadas, en Costa Rica el clima es tropical”
Will, 27 años, Honduras:
“Considero que en Canadá hay más oportunidades, que en mí país no existen, también mayor seguridad en todos los aspectos.”
Milena, 27, Colombia:
“En Colombia diciembre es “Más vivido”, es decir se celebra más, hay música por todos lados, en cambio acá es más frío y apagado. Por otro lado, siento que acá en Canadá existe más confianza y seguridad, aún se puede creer en las palabras de las personas.”
Angie, 30, Perú:
“Existen 2 cosas que llaman más mí atención, “La sociedad en Canadá, respeta a los peatones y las reglas de tránsito y en mí país lamentablemente no” y lo otro, es lo gastronómico, “no me gusta la comida de acá. Perú es un país muy rico en gastronomía, extraño mucho y valoro que allá todo sea fresco y puedas encontrar toda diversidad de frutas, aunque sea un poquito caro pero hay de todo”.
Esto es en grandes rasgos la opinión de algunos Latinos, que viven o han vivido en Canadá. Y tú ¿Qué agregarías?
Differences or Culture Clash between Latinos and Canadians
Imagine leaving home and finding yourself in a completely different place, with different languages, food and culture, to name a few. This is certainly a reality for travelers and new Latino immigrants who arrive in Canada every year. For them, adapting to new customs, languages and beliefs sometimes takes time and is not always achieved.
For this reason, and to get a more complete idea about the cultural clashes in which “Our Latin population” has been involved, we talked to some of them:
Daniela, 37 years old, Chile:
“In my case, I like to be greeted with my hand when I don’t know the person”. Taking off my shoes when I go to a place is something I like too, in fact I adopted it at home in Chile.
Wilson, 34, Costa Rica:
“I came when I was 26 years old, “I was attracted by the mountains full of snow, as well as the well marked seasons, in Costa Rica the climate is tropical“
Will, 27, Honduras:
“I think that in Canada there are more opportunities, which do not exist in my country”, and also greater security in all aspects.
Milena, 27, Colombia:
“In Colombia December is “more lively”, that is to say, there is more celebration, there is music everywhere, on the other hand, here it is colder and duller. On the other hand, I feel that here in Canada there is more trust and security, you can still believe in people’s words.
Angie, 30, Peru:
There are 2 things that call my attention, “The society in Canada respects pedestrians and traffic rules and in my country unfortunately not” and the other thing is the gastronomy, “I don’t like the food here. Peru is a very rich country in gastronomy, I miss a lot and I appreciate that everything there is fresh and you can find all kinds of fruits, even if it is a little bit expensive but there is everything”.
